The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing peristoma skin integrity. Subjects were 45 patients with intestinal stomas. Data was collected from medical and nursing records, and analysed concerning about 1) stomal and peristomal condition, 2) patient's physical condition, 3) stoma care. To choose equipment properly and to change it regularly tended to prevent impaired skin integrity. Significant factors related to impaired skin integrity were 1) the hardness of stool and 2) position or height of stoma. All patients with ileostomy or ulcerative colitis and with wrinkle or scar around stoma were impaired skin integrity. Impaired skin integrity was accelerated by using equipment without skin barriers in introductory phase of irrigation. |
